The MH natural coconut shell shirt button is cut from real coconut shell rather than moulded from resin, so each button carries the grain, tone and small surface variation of the shell it came from. No two are identical, and that variation is the point: a coconut button reads as a natural material on the garment in a way a wood-effect plastic button does not.
The buttons are produced in shirting ligne sizes and drilled with either two or four holes. Shape is not limited to the round blank — MH also cuts square, triangle and leaf profiles from the same shell stock. The surface keeps the shell's own light brown to tan coloring with its natural finish, so the button needs no dye or coating to look finished.
Designers specify these buttons on shirts and on garments where a sustainable material is part of the brief. The same button is also used off-garment, on baby headbands, flower centers, barefoot sandals, scrapbooking and bridal hair pieces.
